Steps to reproduce

I am controlling the font weight on different platforms with local fonts. On edge this is giving me errors in the console which I’d like to avoid.

I have a simplified page below to try. If you load this you will see an error in the console "CSS3120", the error is because it cannot load the helvetica bold font on windows.

I have 2 questions

  1. Since I have Segoe UI in the font-family list before helvetica I don’t know why edge even tried to load the helvetica as it won’t be used. Possibly it’s fetching the file before parsing for perf reasons?

2)If it’s not possible to avoid fetching unused fonts, can you downgrade this to a warning? There is a font-family list for a reason, if you can’t get the first one it falls back, so it’s not necessarily an error, in my case it’s expected behavior.

html {
  font-family: "Segoe UI", "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans-serif;

/*on windows load segoe bold*/
font-face {
  font-family: "Segoe UI";
  font-weight: 800;
  src: local("Segoe UI Bold"); }

/*on mac load helvetica bold*/
font-face {
  font-family: "Helvetica Neue";
  font-weight: 800;
  src: local("Helvetica-Bold"); }
  <div>hello world</div>
  <div style="font-weight: 800;">hello world font-weight 800</div>

  • Thanks, I had inlined the html in the bug, also uploaded a file version of it.

  • I actually do not see any errors in the console in Edge when I test this out.  Which version of Edge are you using?

  • Thanks. I’m running virtual box, and then loading “Microsoft Edge on Win 10 Stable”

    this gives me edge 25.10586.0.0.

    Should try with "Microsoft Edge on Win 10 Preview"?

  • Yeah that would be the easiest way to quickly check if the issue has been fixed in later builds. But I am running 10586 and am not able to repro this. There might be a different in operating environment that could cause this.

    Changed Status to “Not reproducible”

  • As we have not heard back in a while, I’m going to resolve this as not repro. Feel free to reactivate if this status is not correct.

    All the best,
