Steps to reproduce

Context

Office version: Profesionnal Plus 2016
SharePoint version: 2010

Steps

Tested with Edge & IE after updating to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

  1. Go to a document library in the SharePoint site (using the My Site > My Content > Personal Documents, though issue is a general one)
  2. Hover over a Word document in the list, so that the menu triangle is displayed.
  3. Select “Edit in Microsoft Word”

Actual result (Edge)

The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document

Expected & IE result

Document opens in Word 2016

      appears to have been addressed in the latest version of SharePoint. If you are
      not able to upgrade your SharePoint solution to the latest version then we
      would recommend using Internet Explorer to access SharePoint 2010. Internet
      Explorer 11 supports ActiveX controls used by SharePoint2010 to provide a rich
      experience for your users. MS Edge does not contain support for ActiveX
      controls.
