Steps to reproduce

If an extension is storing settings and the value (key) is more than 50 characters it will fail and cause an error. See:

Error

This can affect extensions which allow for backing up settings and restoring them (Such as Reddit Enhancement Suite) making it impossible to restore backups.

This is specific to the usage of chrome.storage and the exact syntax used is below.

chrome.storage.local.set({ [key]: value })

  • 50 is still a hard cap for storing keys, do we know what version this fix should be in?
