Steps to reproduce

Edge is unable to open files from a network share or a mapped drive.

As an example, it won’t open something like this:

\10.0.0.19\RDrive\Production Scheduling\Report\Production Schedule.html

or this

R:\Production Scheduling\Report\Production Schedule.html

This is a feature that ALL browsers should be able to handle at the alpha stage. Not sure why Edge made it all the way to the Anniversary Update with this feature missing.

  • Hello,

Thanks for the Edge feedback. Would you be willing to provide us with the Production Schedule.html file that you are referring to?

I am running 10586 (pre-Anniversary update) and can load html files from a network share with no problems. See the attached screenshot.

Looking forward to investigating the cause of this for you.

    All the best,
    The MS Edge Team

  • Please provide the requested information at your earliest convenience in order to avoid this item from being resolved and closed as not repro.

  • I’ve uploaded “Test File.html” There really isn’t anything special about it like your test file.

The problem is reproducible on this file.

This problem is reproducible on multiple computers.

Could it be a problem with the OS where the file is stored? I believe it’s running Windows Server 2008 Standard.

  • It surely could be. However, if this happens on Win Server 2008 - it is using IE.  Unfortunately, we are not working on IE feature bugs any longer unless they are security related. As a result, I am forced to close this item of feedback as a Won’t Fix item.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

    All the best,

  • Perhaps I didn’t explain that well. The clients in question are running Windows 10 Anniversary Update with Edge.

The server computer where “Test File.html” is stored is running Windows Server 2008. We map a location on that server on the Windows 10 computers.

  • Wow. I had to add “file://10.0.0.19” to the local intranet zone in Internet Explorer to allow Edge to open up the file. See Capture3.png.
