Steps to reproduce

On Edge when you paste from the mouse right-click menu there’s a secondary focus event just as the text value is updated.

This can be tested with this codepen - with the sample focus handling pasting text via the mouse menu results in the initial value being set and focus event logged. The keyboard shortcut works as expected.

  • There is no ‘blur’ to indicate loss of focus
  • This is inconsistent with:
    • The keyboard shortcut
    • Any other major browser (IE11 included)

Also messes with code relying on the focus-blur combo to frame editing process and act accordingly.

Reproducible on:

Windows 10 1511
Microsoft Edge 25.10586.0.0
Microsoft EdgeHTML 13.10586

Windows 10 AU
Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0
Microsoft EdgeHTML 14.14393

    • On further testing - the extra focus fires even when the paste event default is prevented. Focus is fired again even if you right click and click back into the field without performing any action.

    • Thanks for the feedback on MS Edge. I am able to repro this in 14393.105 (current public stable). However, if I test this out in current insider fast builds 14915.1000 (beta builds of Edge) I show the same behavior as Chrome 53.

I’ll resolve it as fixed since we have parity with Chrome 53. Feel free to reactivate if you still see it as an active problem in builds higher than 14915.1000.

      All the best,
      The MS Edge Team
