Steps to reproduce

Create SVG content that has alternative text (title and desc) for individual graphics elements, such as this test case: http://output.jsbin.com/kabinudago/1

(It’s a simplified version of the test case from Issue #8508245, removing the text that shouldn’t be read but is.)

In the accessibility panel in Dev Tools, the shape shows up as a labelled div, and the title as child text content as well, but I can’t get it to read out, except as the tooltip if I happen to mouse over the shape. The title on the svg element is correctly read out as the label of the image (although the Dev Tools accessibility tree describes it as another div). The desc for the shape is also read as the next line of text.

    • Thank you for your feedback. We have been unsuccessful reproducing this issue on MS Edge 14393. The SVG image title can be read with or without tooltip which in this case Narrator reads as “Big red circle image” for SVG title and “Tooltip Big red circle” for hovering the SVG image. Please let us know if we are missing something in here.

      All the best,
      The MS Edge Team

    • Thanks for the feedback Ibrahim. I did some more testing, and it seems to depend on which reading mode Narrator is in. (Sorry, I’m a Narrator newcomer and hadn’t thought to test them all).

In “Items” mode, which seems to be the default, you get the results I described; the items are:

      1. The HTML paragraph.
      2. “SVG Test Case, image”
      3. "It’s big. It’s red. [etc.]" (The circle description)

In “Paragraphs” mode, the results are as you describe:

      1. The HTML paragraph.
      2. “SVG Test Case, image; Big Red Circle, image; SVG Test Case, image” (all at once, repeating the main title at the end)

“Lines” mode is the same as “paragraphs” mode, unless the screen is narrow enough that the HTML paragraph breaks into multiple lines. The SVG titles are still read out as one line, including the repeat for the main graphic title.

In “Words” mode, none of the SVG alternative text is read at all: It’s all replaced with a series of “new line” and "space".

The description is not read out at all in Lines or Paragraphs mode, and I can’t seem to trigger it; the CapsLock+F advanced reading mode tells me that no additional information is available, in any of the modes.

    • I am closing this bug as duplicate of our internal deliverable for svg-aam. I think when doing so, it will send an email saying it was closed by design or something, that is a bug in our issue tracker. See comments in the other bug you filed for more details on my reasoning here.

    • This issue has been resolved External. This means this issue may require a new feature to be implemented or other work that is more significant than a typical bug.
