Steps to reproduce

  1. Using Microsoft Edge on desktop, go to twitter.com and sign in (you need an account)
  2. Compose a new tweet with misspelled words

Expected: Edge highlights the misspelled words OR autocorrects words as it is able
Actual: No misspelled words are highlighted or autocorrected

I also tried Facebook.com and Stackoverflow.com - in both of these instances, spellcheck in Edge worked as expected.

Windows 10 Professional 14393.82

  • I looked at the HTML used in the cases of Twitter and StackOverflow. StackOverflow uses a ‘normal’ TextArea element to get input. Twitter is using a Div with the contenteditable attribute set to true. It also has the spellcheck attribute set to true. I would expect the spellcheck to work when this last attribute is set.

    All the best,

  • Hi Brad, will this also fix the issue where the spellchecker is not working on inputs with the spellcheck attribute? For example on https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/testdrive/demos/spellchecking/

  • Found this via a Google Search. I don’t think it has been fixed, running Build 14986 and spellcheck is absent on certain sites. Best example; Twitter.

  • Spellcheck still doesn’t consistently work in Twitter, but it does randomly, off and on; mostly not. Did Microsoft leave any of the old keyboard shortcuts that could be used to spellcheck? I can’t hit anything to make that work, but have wondered if I’m hitting some key accidentally at times & that’s when the spellcheck works.
