Steps to reproduce

Send the following headers in response:

Content-type: application/pdf

Content-Disposition: inline; filename="09620389_Cash_Requirements_Fri_Dec_18_14_25_00_EST_2015.pdf"

When pdf is returned, the browser tab contains the correct filename but when you right-click and select "Save As", the filename is now “untitled.pdf”

  • Is there any update from this issue??

  • In our case, we were not including the file extension in the URL so our workaround was to add it to the URL. I believe this still to be an issue thought since the header did include the extension and it worked fine in all other browsers. Edge should look at the header for the file name.

  • Thanks Doug for your information.

  • We have the same problem, is this going to be fixed?

  • It seems as though our workaround no longer works in the latest version of Edge that we have (38.14393.0.0). Could someone from MS speak to this issue?

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. Currently, we do not plan to release a fix for this problem. We are considering a solution for a future build.

    Best Wishes,

  • This issue is still present in Microsoft Edge 42.17134.1.0

Rather than saying “won’t fix,” it would be extremely helpful to post a workaround for the developers or end users to implement.

The specific issue I’m having is that I click the “Download pdf” button, it opens the pdf in a new tab of the browser, then if I want to actually download the pdf I click the “Save” or “Save As” button. In both Chrome and Firefox, the original PDF filename is retained when downloaded, while in Edge the save box pops up with “Untitled.pdf” in the filename section.

A mild annoyance maybe, but it works perfectly in other browsers and this is clearly a bug associated with the Edge browser.

  • It’s very disappointing that the Edge team does not care about Internet standards. RFC 6266 advises using the content-disposition header in exactly the way described in "Steps to Reproduce", yet Edge ignores the filename given and chooses to rely solely on the URL. That method works for some simple static sites, but large data diven sites would rarely use it.
My bank (one of many I’m sure) provides statements, tax documents etc as PDF documents in the way described here. I’m not going to rename them all; I will use a different browser.

  • Hello Microsoft team, do you have any specific date for releasing fix on this issue. My user are encouraged to use Edge but this is one such issue which bring down motivation. Other browsers are saving file exactly as provided in name wherein Edge popup save title as untitled. Haven’t found any workaround for this. please suggest one.
