EdgeDriver fails to initialize

Steps to reproduce

I used selenium grid and MS Edge browser running on Windows 10 to open the URL… MSEdge browser launched. But after that nothing happens and it fails after a while…When I looked at the call stack on selenium grid i find EdgeDriver fails to initialize. I am attaching the call stack here. Complete call stack available in attachment.

  • Please note that this issue is specific to EDGE browser ONLY. If i change my browser to chrome my tests run fine.
    This is the line causing the error…

    I see many people hitting this exception but no resolution so far.

  • It looks like the OS you’re running on is Windows 8.1 per
    “os.name: 'Windows 8.1’”

    Edge isn’t supported on Windows 8.1. Assuming that isn’t the issue the next most likely cause is a mismatch between the driver version and the Edge version. Please make sure you have the appropriate version by downloading the correct driver from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/
