Steps to reproduce

Updated Repro Steps

  1. Use Windows Key + Plus Sign to activate magnifier
  2. Select Lens option
  3. In Edge14393, click More (…)
  4. Click More (…) again to close the menu
  5. The screen will freeze and flicker, then the magnifier docks itself somewhere on the screen
  6. Now the magnifier has to be moved by dragging it
  7. Now the magnifier is parked where you dragged it but still shows whatever you hover-over with the mouse pointer
  8. Windows Key + Esc to exit the magnifier

Original Repro Steps

I’m partially sighted and use the Magnifier in LENS view. Since recent EDGE updates the magnifier now crashes or does weird things like change the VIEW of magnifier during certain operations such as closing (x) open tabs, going into … at top right of edge then going to EXTENSIONS

    • Hi,
      I also have High Contrast enabled (Shift/Alt/Print Screen) as well as the Magnifier. I have the Views set to Lens. In Options in Magnifier I adjust the lens size to about the size of a playing card.

      1. Then open Edge.
      2. Go to More (…)
      3. Click on Extensions
        This either makes the Magnifier crash or the Magnifier View changes to Docked

      Another way that crashes Magnifier for me is;

      1. Open Edge
      2. Have several Tabs running
      3. Then when I close a Tab(x), again either the Magnifier crashes or the view changes to Docked.
        Hope these steps work for you. It doesn’t crash in Firefox or Chrome but I prefer Edge.

    • Several teams of ours here have tried to repro this and are unable to. At this point it would be best if you could record the steps using a screen recorder - or as a last resort a PSR recording which will automatically grab steps and screenshots.  Here are the directions for capturing a PSR:


      Alternatively you can use a third party application such as:

      And upload the file or provide a link. Having this extra information would go a long ways on such a detailed bug / problem you are reporting.

    • I have had the exact same problem. I don’t know why you can’t get this to do the same. It happens frequently. As described above, going into the settings and clicking on advanced options, cllsing a tab in Microsoft edge when multiple tabs are open, etc. The magnfifier shows up again if you do a three-fingered salute, but disappears as soon as you exit that screen to look at someting say the task manager. Sometimes it goes away and te magnifier returns, but often you have to restart the computer to get use of the magnifier again. Also, in edge, a lot of screens don’t have the magnifier follow the cursor. As I write this, I do not have use of the magnifier, because it won’t follow the cursor the way it normaly does in Word or any other program in Windows 10. Please fix it, it is a huge part of the reason I can use windows easily.
      I am using Windows 10 in the Korean language format.

    • I have the same issue here.
      Using Windows 10 64bit. For me it’s no longer possible to use EDGE.
      I use the magnifier in the docked position.
      I open EDGE, click on more(…) and than for example "options".
      The magnifier craches, menu window closes and EDGE is on full screen.
      If i try to open magifier again, it takes about 4-5 times clicking on it for it to open again.

    • I tried to capture it with PSR and uploaded it to my Onedrive. I hope this works.

      Thank you everyone for providing important information about the issue. We were indeed able to repro the problem in Edge 14393. We are pleased to report this feature is fixed in Edge 15002 and is available in the current Insider Preview of Edge.
