Steps to reproduce

Hello,

we are the operator of the web site “http://www.questico.de” and we had found a problem with our site
in conjuction with the Microsoft Edge browser. We hope we can get some information to be able to fix
that issue.

Steps zu reproduce:

On a Windows 10 Professional Build 10586 (Windows and Apps are up to date) open the website
http://www.questico.de/wahrsager-hellseher-kartenleger/” in the MS Edge browser.

First Problem:

The click on the advertisement on the right side of the page leads to an empty page.

Second Problem:

to work around the first problem all browser data has to be cleared and then the click on the advertisement works
but the wrong page will be displayed (the “advisor” in the advertisement does not match the one which is displayed
after the redirect).

In order to find out what causes that behaviour, we had done some investigations:

  1. The mechanism which is used here:
Our website uses the advertisement platform "www.reviveservers.com". They use cookies to track the user
and which banner the user has clicked. Those cookies are the problem here. In the issue described first the cookie
called “OAID” could not be saved (no error, just not saved) and therefore will not be sent to the server.
After cleaning the browser data that first step worked and the cookie called "OAVARS[a6dc3c39]" comes to action.
This cookie will be updated with every advertisement reload. Updating that cokie on advertisement reload does not
    work in MS Edge.

  2. Environments
We have tested this issue in several windows installations and there were mixed observations. We used the installation
media from MS Technet (Windows10x64_de.iso, SHA1: fe817172ec9dd59d443253775004fc976e041a0a) on real hardware and
virtual machines (ESX and VirtualBox). Those installations in VirtualBox where the only one where the problem does NOT occur.

We also tested the virtual machine provided by https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/ in which the
problem does NOT occur.

  1. Internet Explorer
The IE on every tested windows installation does NOT have the issue.

So, once more, we hope to get some information from you to get rid of that problem.

We will provide more information if required.

Best regards,

  • Thank you for your feedback. As you have described that the issue is not repro in VM version of Windows which they mostly contains the latest versions of MS Edge, appears to be this issue is already fixed and no longer reproducible in MS Edge. Also you have mentioned about your version as 10586 which is currently outdated and to be able to get new features and bug fixes such as yours, please consider updating your environment. This should solve your issue. Current public stable build is 14393.351 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-update-history, you can also check your version by typing “winver.exe” in Windows search bar and press enter.

    All the best,
    The MS Edge Team

  • Thank you for your reply and effort.
We have upgraded a system with the “Windows 10 Anniversary Update” but the problem persists.
Also the issue can be found on every hardware and ESX installation we have tested on our enterprise (min. 10 machines). So it should be reproducible.
