Steps to reproduce

I am running Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0, Microsoft EdgeHTML 14.14393

I am seeing Edge opening new windows via window.open in Javascript, even though a window with the same name is already open.

I have attached openWindow.html. There is a single button that when clicked, will open a new window with the name "myTestWindow".

  1. Open “openWindow.html” in two Edge tabs.
  2. In the first tab, click the button and a new “myTestWindow” window opens.
  3. In the second tab, click the button and a new “myTestWindow” window opens.
  4. In the second tab, click the button again and another new “myTestWindow” window opens.
  5. In the first tab, click the button, and the existing “myTestWindow” window that is already open is refreshed.
  6. In the second tab, click the button again, and another new “myTestWindow” window opens.
  • In Chrome, each tab will open a new “myTestWindow” window, and refresh the associated “myTestWindow” window when clicked.
  • In Firefox and IE11, the button in the first tab will open a new “myTestWindow” window, and the button in the second tab will refresh the open “myTestWindow” window.

  • Does this repro for you consistently? I tested this out in Edge 14393 and cannot repro no matter how many times that I try.

Also it doesn’t seem to be opening new windows but rather new tabs.
