Steps to reproduce
I have a website that submits/posts to the same url (eg. test.aspx). A user may proceed through several of these test.aspx pages, each test.aspx has different content but the URL remains the same.
In IE11 when a user clicks the browser’s back button he will not be sent back to the previous test.aspx page, instead he will be sent back to the last time the URL had changed (eg. test-picker.aspx).
When I was trying to debug this issue, I had the F12 Developer Tools open and I noticed that the window.history.length would not increase as I submitted/navigated through the test.aspx pages.
However when I closed the F12 Developer Tools and logged the window.history.length using a script on the page instead, the window.history.length would increment properly.
In summary there are two related issues:
- Back button not working as expected.
- window.history not updating as expected when the F12 Developer Tools are open.
Note: These issues do not occur in other browsers.
