Acer immersive headset driver update (16246)

Go live date: 7/21/2017 8pm

Run Windows Update with your immersive headset connected to your PC to receive this driver update.

In this driver flight, we have made some improvements to the Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers, as well as addressed some reliability and stability top issues. Please reference motion controller setup for setup instructions and troubleshooting.

To use motion controllers with these improvements, please make sure you are on Windows 10 build 16241 and headset driver version 16246 (Verify Windows 10 and driver versions).

Motion controller improvements with headset driver 16246

  • Improved tracking for both one and two controllers.
  • Velocity, PositionQuality supported.

Known issues with headset driver 16246

  • Using motion controllers via Bluetooth is not supported yet. Please do not mix and match Bluetooth and USB with your motion controllers. To use motion controllers via USB, be sure to unpair the controllers from Bluetooth first.
  • Haptics intensity doesn't work.
  • After the HMD (Head Mounted Display) goes to sleep and wakes up, controllers may be lost. Unplugging and re-plugging the controllers will resolve the issue.
  • Battery level reporting for controllers is inconsistent.

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16241 for PC

Mixed reality improvements in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16241

In this flight, we have enabled Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers, as well as addressed some reliability and stability top issues. Please reference motion controller setup for setup instructions and troubleshooting.

To use motion controllers, please make sure you are on Windows 10 build 16241 and driver version 16238 (Verify Windows 10 and driver versions).

  • Added support for Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers over USB (wireless/Bluetooth support to come soon!).
  • Connection reliability improvements (Code 43 errors in Device Manager).
  • Improved stability of the headset during your mixed reality session.
  • Fixed the issue where the hill on the side of the Windows Mixed Reality home flickers.
  • Fixed the issue where the audio in HoloTour turns off when switching between apps and the Windows Mixed Reality home.
  • Fixed speech commands so they work during exclusive app sessions.
  • Improved the experience where we can now load the environment effectively with no black screen during startup.
  • Mixed Reality Portal now explicitly informs users that headsets require USB 3.0
  • Improved support for ASMedia & other 3rd party USB controllers
  • 4K 360 Video streaming has also been improved in this build.

Mixed reality known issues in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16241

We are actively improving the experience of Windows Mixed Reality immersive headsets and motion controllers:

  • Unity Play Mode is broken with this build. We are actively working on this issue and hope to resolve it next week.
  • Sometimes motion controllers don’t show up. Workaround: unplug and plug back in to get tracking.
  • Motion controllers drift when they lose visual tracking and position rotates to head.
  • Battery level reporting is inconsistent.

New Windows Insider SLOW Flight Build 16232 Released

This gives Windows Mixed Reality developers the option to directly get the 16232 ISO from the Windows Insider Website Advanced Download Page, which reduces the initial developer setup time. Once you are on 16232, please then sign up for Windows Insider FAST flight to get the latest build (16241 or above) to support motion controllers.

Mixed reality improvements

In this flight, we have addressed a lot of top Mixed Reality developer feedback and fixed the top issues.

  • Unity Play Mode for MR improvements: We have fixed when the app content becomes user-locked after exiting Play mode in the Unity editor.
  • Performance improvement from MRTP7 to MRTP8.
  • Windows Mixed Reality developers now can run MR apps from the Unity editor without any problems.
  • Getting ready to enable external developers with our new Motion Controller: in this flight, we are one step close to get external developers enabled to develop with our new Motion controller. More updates coming to this front soon.
  • 3Glasses improvements: we have fixed various issues with 3Glasses headset and controller to help jumpstart your development.

We have also addressed many top user experience feedback from you:

  • We have fixed the issue where the audio of Holotour or other exclusive media keep playing after switching between the app and Cliff House.
  • Preset holograms in the Cliff House now show up in the right order.
  • We have also fixed the issue where black screen is shown when the environment is loading.
  • We have fixed the headset's sleep cycle to correct according to user activities.
  • We have also fixed the issue to enable users to share the Mixed reality captures to facebook.

  • No critical developer blocking issues at the moment.

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16226 for PC

Mixed reality improvements

  • Mixed Reality Software Download issue is fixed in this flight. The workaround that has been provided for the last flight can be removed. You could directly upgrade to 16226 and get the Mixed Reality Software.
  • 360 Video issue with video quality has also been fixed.
  • New Teleportation Model also introduced in this flight, where we transitioned to a much easier teleportation and navigation model only using the left joystick.
  • Speech improvements where we have improved the speech interaction experience through out Mixed Reality platform.
  • Headset Reliability Improvement where we are going to continuously improve on this in future flights.
  • We also fixed issues when trying to get out of limited mode.
  • We fixed the issue where the Mixed Reality Portal does not shut down cleanly.
  • We fixed the issue where Cortana now opens up apps correctly within the Mixed Reality environment.
  • We fixed the issue where there is multiple gaze cursor in exclusive mode apps.
  • We also fixed the issue where the Boundary is set smaller than the actual.

Mixed reality improvements

  • Improved headset reliability issues where headset recognition and continuous usage is improved.
  • We fixed issues where developers can now develop on recommended laptops.
  • We fixed crashes when user exits 360 video.
  • We fixed mouse crash issue that happens when switching between controller & physical mouse while using Mixed Reality.
  • We fixed shift key on the soft keyboard crashes
  • Room Adjustment available. This enables users to set the riht floor that works for them. This is part of out of the box flow. You can also set up again via Room Adjustment app in All App List.
  • New Media Room available in the Mixed Reality home.

Mixed reality known issues

  • Mixed Reality Software Download for new developers: If you are a new Mixed Reality developer or if you see an error message stating "We couldn't download the Windows Mixed Reality software.", please install build 16193 and then install the Mixed Reality Software manually:
    1. Go to the Windows Insider Preview ISO download page
    2. Ensure that you are signed in with your Microsoft account
    3. From the "Select edition" drop-down menu, select "Windows 10 Insider Preview - Build 16193", and follow the steps to download the ISO file
    4. On the same page, download Feature On Demand Insider Preview (part 1), which contains the Mixed Reality Software
    5. Open the "Windows_InsiderPreview_FOD1_x64_en-us_16193.iso" file, and copy Microsoft-Windows-Holographic-Desktop-FOD-Package.cab file to a known location
    6. Install Windows 10 Insider Preview - Build 16193
    7. Add Mixed Reality Software via PowerShell, by launch an elevated PowerShell Session (Run as Administrator), and run the following command: Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath <path to previously copied CAB file>
    8. Launch the Settings app, select "Update & Security", then "Windows Insider Program" and opt-in to Windows Insider Preview FAST Flights.
