In this session we will dive deep into new preview elasticity features for Azure Cosmos DB. We’ll show you how to optimize your partitioning strategy using hierarchical partition keys, manage the number of physical partitions you have using partition merge, respond to sudden spikes using burst capacity, and set the number of RUs per physical partition using the partition throughput redistribution feature. Come learn how all of these new preview elasticity features will help Azure Cosmos DB seamlessly scale with your application and respond to spikes in your workload traffic while keeping your costs low!

Join Microsoft Cloud Advocates, MVPs, and product engineers Jim Bennett, Justine Cocchi, and Deborah Chen as we go deeper into the tech announced at Microsoft Build and share what we’ve learned.

About the Series:
Microsoft Build: Unpack the Tech at the Reactors.

Let’s unpack the tech of Microsoft Build and find out!

Speakers:

Jim Bennett
Jim is a Regional Cloud Advocate focusing on building out and skilling communities in the Pacific North West, with a focus on the Microsoft Reactor in Redmond, Washington. He’s British, so sounds way smarter than he actually is, and is happy he moved to Redmond in time to be locked down at home and not see the office he came to work in, or the places he wanted to visit. In the past he’s lived in 4 continents working as a developer in the mobile, desktop, and scientific space. He's spoken at conferences and events all around the globe, organized meetup groups and communities, and written a book on mobile development.

He also hates and is allergic to cats, but has a 9-year-old daughter who loves cats, so he has 2 cats.

Justine Cocchi
Justine is a Senior Program Manager on the Azure Cosmos DB team at Microsoft. She focuses on enhancing developer experiences for the .NET and Go SDKs as well as improving integrations with other products such as Azure App Service, Azure Functions and Azure Logic Apps.

Deborah Chen
Deborah Chen is a Program Manager on Azure Cosmos DB. She focuses on building a great partitioning and elasticity experience to enable customers to get the best cost/performance in Cosmos DB. In her free time, she enjoys building demos to show the capabilities of Azure Cosmos DB. Previously, she worked on Visual Studio, building out new debugging and productivity features.
