Build a real-time soil moisture monitoring system with Azure Functions & IoT Hub

19 October, 2021 | 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM (UTC) Coordinated Universal Time

Topic: Cloud Development

Language: English

In this talk, We are going to build an event-driven IoT solution to monitor the soil moisture level of our crops by leveraging the power of Azure Functions and Azure IoT Hub. The solution will store soil moisture data on a per second basis in Azure Cosmos DB and every time the soil moisture level goes below a certain threshold, our solution will send an email alert to the end user mentioning that the crops needs water.

The session will focus on- Azure IOT Hub and Azure Function

What will the attendees learn from the session?- Learn about leveraging the power of Azure IoT Hub using the Client and Service SDKs to build IoT solutions. We will also explore ways to build a solution to consume telemetry data from azure IOT hub by using an Azure function.

Note - We will be using a Simulator App created using .NET Core with Azure IoT Hub Device SDK to send soil moisture level data to the IoT hub. Azure Cosmos DB will be used to store the soil moisture level data for further analysis but we won't be discussing it briefly as it is beyond the scope of the talk. SendGrid will be used to send email notifications to the end user during the talk.
