Topic: Using AI Products

Language: English

Migrating from traditional relational databases to a cloud-native NoSQL database can feel daunting — but it doesn’t have to be. In this session, we’ll show how you can leverage GitHub Copilot, GPT-5, and Visual Studio Code to accelerate the modernization of a Spring application using Spring Data. We will walk through a real-world scenario of transforming an existing Spring Boot application that uses a relational database into one powered by Azure Cosmos DB. Along the way, we’ll use GitHub Copilot Instructions to guide AI-assisted refactoring, generate entity mappings, and create new repository interfaces, while relying on Copilot’s inline suggestions to catch subtle API differences. You’ll learn practical techniques to: • Identify and refactor data access code with minimal manual effort • Use Copilot to generate boilerplate migration tasks and tests • Leverage GPT-5 for reasoning through schema design and performance trade-offs • Validate the migration end-to-end from local development to cloud deployment If you are a Java developer or architect looking to modernize your Spring apps for the cloud, this talk will show you how to use AI-powered tools to get there faster, with confidence.
